The All Sri Lanka Bakery Owners Association has decided to increase the price of a 450 gram loaf of bread by 10 rupees, effective from midnight today, Monday (23.03.2026).
Accordingly, the association has officially announced that the new selling price of a 450 gram loaf of bread, which was previously sold for 120 rupees, will be 130 rupees.
It has been decided to increase the prices of not only bread but also all other bakery products by 10 rupees each from midnight today.
The Bakery Owners Association further pointed out that this decision has been taken due to the severe increase in the cost of living in the country and the increase in the prices of raw materials including wheat flour.
With fuel prices rising and transportation costs increasing, the price of bread, considered the daily staple of the poor and the needy, has also increased, causing great dissatisfaction among consumers.
